EXCELLENT results at the recent Para-cycling Track World Championships in the Netherlands have seen eight SASI athletes win positions on the Australian cycling team for 2019.

Twenty three athletes from around Australia made the Para team with each team member categorised as either Podium, Podium Ready or Podium Potential.

Results from the recent track world titles saw Australia finish second on the ladder with 17 medals, including nine gold medals.

SASI athletes Paige Greco (track, road), Darren Hicks (track, road) and Meg Lemon (track, road) all made the Podium category, Brad Henderson (track), Kieran Murphy (track, road) and Lachlan Glasspool (track, road, pilot) were selected in the Podium Ready section, while Grant Allen (road) and Darcy Thompson (track) were selected as Podium Potential athletes.

SASI Para-cycling Coach Loz Shaw said the SASI members were all in good shape and putting in the hard work.

He offered special praise for Greco whose results and commitment were amazing, he said.

"She is probably the most driven athlete I have worked with," Shaw said.

"Paige has made a huge step up since coming to SA and joining SASI in December. "She broke three world records in her recent world titles and is always pushing herself to get better. She is just dominating at the moment and is capable of anything. I think she will keep blitzing.

"But we have a number of other big hitters. Lachy (Glasspool) is just a beast and one of the best pilots in the world, while our other athletes have been working really hard with a couple having injuries to get over.

"It is going to be a very busy time for most of our team for the next six months or so.''

The first of the world cup series is in Corridonia, Italy, between May 9 and 12 with Greco, Hicks and Lemon competing. The full team is expected to head to Ostend, Belgium, between May 16 and 19 for the second world cup.
