A STRONG mix of experience and youth will be what SASI athletes will showcase after winning selection in various national teams for international canoe sprint competitions this year.

The athletes won their berths after the recent Senior Sprint Selection trials at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.

Also featuring the National Sprint Championships, athletes were chosen in squads of senior men and women, under-23 men and women, juniors and para.

The SASI athletes announced in the teams included:

Senior men: Matt Goble

Senior women: Josephine Bulmer (canoe), Cat McArthur

Under-23 men: Jayden Ellis, Chris Kither

Under-23 women: Josephine Bulmer

Junior men: Jesse Kneebone-Ellis, Daniel Kucharski.

Goble (men's kayak), McArthur (women's kayak) and Bulmer (women's canoe) will compete at the World Cups in Szeged, Hungary, between May 18 and 20 and at Duisburg, Germany, between May 25 and 27. The trio then should line up at the world championships in Montemor o Velho, Portugal, between August 23 and 26.

Younger athletes Ellis, Kither and Bulmer (again) will show their talent at the Under-23 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria between July 26 and 29.

Acting SASI Head Coach Dusan Ruzicic said it was an excellent effort from the SASI athletes, including those who just missed national selection.

''For the most part both selection and national championship races went really well for all of our athletes with a lot of PBs which is always great to see,'' Ruzicic said.

''Competition was really tough with some strong performances especially from NSW.

''I am very proud of everyone who has been nominated to this year's national teams and the ones who did not make it as well.

''Francesca Kidd has been nominated to the under-21 women's team and will compete at the Asia Pacific Championships in May in Adelaide.
