Women’s Basketball

The Opal Women’s Basketball team (Laura Hodges, Erin Phillips, Cayla George and Stephanie Talbot) remain undefeated in the Pool rounds with a tough win over Japan. Challenged for the entire game the Opals took the lead for the first time in the game, with 3 minutes to go in the 4th Quarter to win 92-86

Badminton

Leanne Choo’s first Group game (Mixed doubles) was a 2-0 loss against a dominant performance from their Indonesian counterparts.

Cycling – Track

The Track Cycling team started their Olympic campaign today and the Women’s Team Pursuit (Annette Edmondson), were against the odds after a training crash four days ago. Showing great resilience they were able to set the 3rd best qualifying time.

The Men’s Team Pursuit featuring SASI Riders Alex Edmondson and Jack Bobridge also qualified 3rd fastest to progress to the next round.

The Men’s Team Sprint (Matthew Glaetzer, Pat Constable) won their Qualifying race but were half a second away from the Gold Medal ride. They were eventually outsprinted in the Bronze Medal ride to finish fourth.

Hockey

The Hockeyroos (Jane Claxton, Karri McMahon, Gabi Nance and Georgie Parker) showed they are not ready to give up their fight for a medal after a strong performance against world number two Argentina in the Pool B match. They scored the only goal in the match in the third quarter and defended well to win1-0.

Rowing

Medal favourites James McRae and Alex Belonogoff (Men’s Quad Sculls) were narrowly beaten by reigning World and Olympic Champions Germany. They challenged the German team late but were beaten by 1.15 seconds to claim Silver.

Alex Hill and the Men’s Four dominated their Semi-final from the start and moved through to the A Final to be contested at approximately 11:50 pm today (local time).

The Men’s Double Scull (Chris Morgan) finished the event in 7th position after winning the B Final.

Sally Kehoe completed her Olympic campaign finishing 9th after a third placing in the Women’s Double Scull B Final.

Olympia Aldersey and Molly Goodman, both members of the late call-up Women’s Eight finished 7th for the competition.

Water Polo

Isobel Bishop scored a goal and an assist in the second game of the competition for the Stingers. They trailed the Italian’s for most of the game and unfortunately a late goal by the Italian’s resulted in their first loss 7-8.
