DAY 2 - First Medal to SA Athlete

Swimming brings in SA's first medal of the Games

Two time Olympic Medallist Jared Tallent has announced he has withdrawn from the 20km Race Walk due to a niggling hamstring injury. He was due to compete on Saturday 13 August in the 20km event but decided to withdraw to focus on his more preferred event the 50km race which gives him an extra week to recover and prepare.

In results on Day 2, the cancellation of racing on the Rowing course due to bad weather meant a delay in Alex Hill and the Men's Four starting their campaign. The Basketball women had a tough fought win over Turkey.

The highlight of the day came when Kyle Chalmers and the Men's 4 x 100m Relay team won a Bronze Medal behind USA and France in a nail-biting finish. It was a fast, furious race and the boys were able to come over the top of the Russia team to finish in the medals.
