The SASI Cycling Team had an extremely successful National Omnium, Madison and Para-Cycling National Championships in Melbourne over the weekend.

The SASI Cycling Team had an extremely successful National Omnium, Madison and Para-Cycling National Championships in Melbourne over the weekend.

Across the U19 and Senior, Male and Female Omnium Championships, SASI riders won three National Titles (Dani McKinnirey U19 female, Rohan Wight U19 Male and Alex Edmondson Senior Male), a silver (Glenn O’Shea Senior Male) and a bronze (Miles Scotson Senior Male). The titles continued to flow into the Madison National Championships with Annette Edmondson and Jess Mundy taking out the crown for the second year running. 

Not to be outdone, the SA Para-Cycling athletes were also bringing home the medals, with visually impaired athletes Rachel Henderson and her Pilot Carla Franson taking three national titles in the Women’s Tandem 1000m TT , Womens’ Tandem 3km Pursuit and Women’s Tandem Sprint and Brad Henderson and Pilot Tom Drizners claiming a Silver medal in the Men’s Tandem 1000m TT and Men’s Tandem Sprint, as well as a Bronze in the Men’s Tandem 4km Pursuit. 

SASI were also represented in the Sprint events, with Pat Constable and Rikki Belder both taking silver medals in the Sprint event behind Matthew Glaetzer and Anna Meares respectively. Rikki also went on to win the Keirin ahead of Anna, and Matt won the Men’s in emphatic style.
