Golden Volleyroos set to shine in Hamburg
Volleyroos Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy have finetuned for their first FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship with a stunning gold medal at a world tour event in Poland. The world championship is in Hamburg between June 28 and July 7.
THE exciting rise of Volleyball Australia Volleyroos Mariafe Artacho Del Solar and Taliqua Clancy as a major player in world beach volleyball looks to have no limits.
The SASI-based duo, and a team on the world tour since late 2017, last week added a gold medal to their resumes after landing on top of the podium in Warsaw, Poland. In the final the fifth seeds accounted for the US team of Emily Stockman and Kelley Larsen 2-0 (22-20, 21-17). Winning six of their seven matches in Warsaw the victory was the team's fifth World Tour gold medal and the ninth time on the podium since teaming up.
Del Solar said the team stayed cool under pressure.
"We stuck strong together. We kept fighting every point and hustling,'' Del Solar said.
"It was really good teamwork and really good patience from us and we just trusted the process.''
Clancy, who partnered Olympian Louise Bawden (now her coach) at three previous world championships, also was buoyed by what the team had achieved and what was to come.
"I am so excited to go back to Hamburg. It’s such a great event and it would be amazing to be in the same position as we were here,'' Clancy said.
"There's no ceiling to our game and that excites us.
"Last year in Hamburg the crowd had an amazing energy and we can't wait for more of the same.''
