A burning desire to succeed and ultra consistent form in the Suncorp Super Netball competition with the NSW Swifts has paid off for SASI Graduate Sarah Klau. The rising star has been named in the Diamonds team for the coming Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England, between July 12 and 21

SARAH Klau will proudly wear the green and gold colours of the Australian netball team, the Diamonds, for the first time at the Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England, between July 12 and 21.

But while her selection mainly was earned on the back of her outstanding deeds with the NSW Swifts in the Suncorp Super Netball competition she also will be flying the flag for her home state, South Australia - the only South Aussie chosen in the world cup team.

A SASI Graduate, Klau, 24, played for the Thunderbirds in 2016-2017 and her district club Matrics prior to that before moving to the Swifts.

Chosen in the world cup team as a defender and likely to line up with fellow NSW Swifts player Paige Hadley alongside her, had been a plus.

Klau, studying occupational therapy, said weekly competition against tough goal shooters in the super league and several players with international experience had provided a strong platform to build her game.

Swifts teammates Helen Housby and Samantha Wallace are likely to be on court in attack for England and Trindad and Tobago respectively - the duo often standing Klau in training sessions with the Swifts.

"They are challenging me each training," Klau said. "I think that's really improved my game.

"And the encouragement from coaches has been great. They just instilled so much confidence and belief in me and said to 'give it all you've got''.

"I'm representing so many people, my previous coaches, SASI, South Australia as the only South Aussie in the team, hopefully I'm doing them proud. Immanuel College gave me an amazing scholarship too - without their support I wouldn’t be here.''

SASI'S Netball Program Head Coach Jenny Borlase was thrilled with Klau's selection.

"As a past SASI scholar we would like to congratulate Sarah on being selected as one of 12 athletes to represent the Australian Diamonds World Cup team for 2019," Borlase said.

"On behalf of SASI we would like to wish Sarah the very best for the Diamonds' World Cup campaign as they "Go for Gold".

Hadley, Caitlin Bassett (captain) and Caitlin Thwaites are the only three players from the victorious 2015 team to make the 2019 line up.
