Volleyball Australia Volleyroos Mariafe Artacho Del Solar and Taliqua Clancy stood tall under pressure to win a bronze medal at the recent FIVB 4 Star Xiamen Beach Volleyball World Tour event in China
A WORLD top-five berth could be the prize soon for Volleyball Australia Volleyroos Mariafe Artacho Del Solar and Taliqua Clancy after an excellent effort at the FIVB 4 Star Xiamen Beach Volleyball World Tour event in China.
The team won bronze at the event, beating three US combinations and one Brazilian team. Among the key scalps for the Australians was beating three-times Olympic gold medallist Kerri Walsh Jennings and her partner Brooke Sweat 2-1 in the pool round.
The Australians lost to the Czech Republic team 2-0 in the semi final and then beat one of the US combinations in the play off for bronze.
Del Solar said she and Clancy were thrilled with their result which qualifies them to compete in the world championships in Hamburg in July.
"We were very happy with our first result of the season," Del Solar said.
"It was a good start for us and we are excited to keep going forward and upwards from here.
"We are always aiming to be on top of the podium.
"We head back to China next week for the Asian championships then we have events all over Europe leading up to the world champs in Hamburg in late June, early July.''
