SASI para-cyclists set hot pace again
Six gold medals and four silver medals was the return from a star-studded SASI team at the recent 2018 Para-Cycling Track Nationals at the Dunc Gray Velodrome in Sydney
THERE was no stopping the SASI team as it competed strongly at the recent Para-Cycling Track Nationals at the Dunc Gray Velodrome in Sydney.
The SASI team finished in style with six gold and four silver medals. Sprint tandem pair Brad Henderson and Tom Clarke were outstanding to win gold in the 1k which earned them a place on the Commonwealth Games team.
Meg Lemon performed strongly to win gold in the 500m sprint and silver in the pursuit, w
hile Darcy Thompson, although off his best times, won two gold medals.
Kieran Murphy and Lachy Glasspool won gold in the pursuit (six seconds above their best previous time), while the pair combined to take silver in the 1k.
Darren Hicks snared gold in the pursuit and silver in the 1k.
SASI Para-Cycling Coach Loz Shaw said the SASI athletes excelled.
''All athletes had a really good campaign,'' he said.
''SASI has the biggest team with world-class athletes. Some riders met their best times, some were under.
''Brad and Tom qualifying for the Commonwelth Games was excellent. That was just an exceptional result for them.
''All athletes qualified for the world championships next year which was great.
''Now most of the team is preparing for the road nationals early in January.''
