Josh proves a medal marvel at Oceania titles

SASI athlete Josh Harrison stunned the crowd and himself with a dazzling display at the Oceania Track Championships - netting three gold medals and two bronze medals

OUTSTANDING SASI athlete Josh Harrison is still pinching himself after a standout performance at the recent Oceania Track Championships in Cambridge, New Zealand.

Competing with and against some of the best riders in the Oceania region, Harrison, 22, went from strength to strength at the event to finish with three gold medals and two bronze medals.

He won gold in the points, scratch and omnium events and grabbed bronze in the madison and team pursuit.

The results were beyond Harrison's expectations.

''The whole event went perfectly,'' he said.

''Before the competition I would have been happy to maybe podium in a couple of events.

''But when I had success early on I had to stay focused and settle down and to not get too far ahead of myself.

''In the bunch racing pretty much everything went up for me. When I got a sniff at a possible win I just went hard for it.

''Leading up to the event I had a solid training base behind me which really helped.

''My SASI teammates were really helpful and looked out for me.

''I have been lucky to have had success in world cups and other events but this is right on the top of my highlights.''

Harrison has a busy time approaching with the Melbourne 6-Day track cycling event at Thornbury between December 5 and 10 next on the agenda.

Off the track the Para Hills resident works part time at Standish Cycles at Klemzig, is a SASI State Development lead coach and is studying for a diploma in the City at the Australian Institute of Business and Technology.
