DAY 14 - Highlights of all the SA athletes in Rio

Events and results for Day 14 of the Rio Olympics.

Reigning Olympic champion Jared Tallent was in action in the Men’s 50km Race Walk on Day 14 of the games. He was in the lead group for most of the race before surging forward and leading. It was at the 48km mark when he was overtaken by eventual winner Matej Toth of Slovakia where Jared had done all he could and found nothing left in the tank. Jared is now Australia’s most decorated male Track and Field athlete of all time earning his 4th Olympic medal at these games.

Tania Holiday made her Olympic debut in the Women’s 20km Race Walk on Day 14 finishing in 26th position.

Basketball Men

The Aussie Boomers (Joe Ingles) were dominated by Serbia in their Semi-final losing 61-87. They progress to the Bronze medal match against Spain where they hope to make history by winning the first medal for Australia in men’s Basketball at the Olympic Games.

Cycling – BMX

Sam Willoughby and Anthony Dean dominated day 2 of the BMX competition going through all runs undefeated in the Semi-finals. A crash for Anthony in the Final ruined his chances of a medal resulting in an 8th placing while Sam was unable to get free of the pack finishing 6th.

Water Polo

Our Water Polo women (Isobel Bishop) finished their Olympic campaign in 6th position after losing10-12 in a tight match to Spain.
