Events and results for Day 4 of the Rio Olympics.
In Women’s Basketball our local contingent (Laura Hodges, Erin Phillips, Cayla George and Stephanie Talbot) contributed to a strong win over France (89-71). The team was challenged in the first quarter but showed their dominance.
Isobel Bishop scored a goal in the Australian Women’s Water Polo team’s first game of the competition. The Stingers showed their class and were never challenged by Russia with a dominating 14-4 win.
Our rowers Sally Kehoe (Women’s Double) and Chris Morgan (Men’s Double) both found it tough in their Semi-finals each missing out on qualifying for the Final. Both boats are now out of medal contention and will compete in their respective B Final’s later in the week.
Swimmer Kyle Chalmers coming off a Bronze medal in the Men’s 4 x 100m Freestyle relay continued his outstanding form as the fastest qualifier in the 100 m Freestyle Heats, going under 48 seconds for the first time. He progresses to the Semi-final which he won in an equally fast time. The Final will be at 11:30 am local time Thursday.
From 10pm tonight local time, our Hockeyroos (Jane Claxton, Karri McMahon, Gabi Nance and Georgie Parker) and Beach Volleyball Women (Louise Bawden, Taliqua Clancy, Mariafe Artacho Del Solar, Nikki Laird) face important matches to progress in their respective competitions.
