DAY 3 - Highlights of all the SA athletes in Rio
Events and results for Day 3 of the Rio Olympics.
SA shooters Dane Sampson and young debutant Jack Rossiter entered competition on Day 3 of the Rio Games in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle. With only 8 places available in the final round, Jack and Dane fell short finishing 46th and 37th respectively.
The Women’s Hockey team had a tough match against the USA losing 1-2 after coming off a loss to Great Britain on Day 1. They now sit at the bottom of their group without a win.
Our Rowers were back in action with the Men’s Four (Alex Hill) and Women’s Eight (Olympia Aldersey, Molly Goodman) starting their campaigns after Rowing was cancelled on Day 2 due to windy conditions. The Women’s Eight move to the repechage round while the Men’s Four progressed through to the semi-final after qualifying fastest in the heats.
The Beach Volleyball Women were back on the sand. Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Nicole Laird lost a tough 3 set match against Switzerland and must win their last game to progress in the tournament.
Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy had a convincing win over Venezuela late Monday. They outclassed the less experienced South Americans in 2 sets and were rarely challenged. They now look to their match against the 6th seeded Dutch team to decide the top of the Pool.
Joe Ingles (Men’s Basketball) had a strong last quarter for the Boomers and Australia scored an impressive 95 – 80 win over Serbia. They now play USA in the next match.
