SASI Rowers Selected for Rio Olympics Berths

South Australian athletes race for Australian team selection bound for the Rio Olympic Games.

Following an intense week of racing  at the final National Selection Trials in Penrith, our South Australian athletes have done a fantastic job as they raced for Australian team selection bound for the Rio Olympic Games.

SASI Director Wes Battams said “I'm extremely proud of the SASI athletes and coaching staff in the achievements to date and to have 6 SASI rowers across 4 different Olympic boats for final selections is rewarding. Full credit must go to the athletes and SASI Rowing Head Coach Jason Lane. They have all worked tirelessly and meticulously over the three and half years since London to put themselves in this position.”

Congratulations to the following athletes who will now relocate to the national training  bases, Canberra and Sydney for final preparations;

Olympia Aldersey – women’s eight squad

Alexander 'Sasha' Belonogoff – men’s quad

Molly Goodman – women’s eight squad

Alex Hill – men’s four

Sally Kehoe – women’s double

James McRae – men’s quad

Also included in the Australian Olympic Rowing Team is former SASI rower Chris Morgan (Men’s Double) who now resides in Sydney.

All boats that feature our SASI athletes have met Olympic qualifying positions with the exception of the women’s eight who will now prepare for the final qualification regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland in May.
