SASI swimmers selected to take on the world
SASI swimmers are amongst a host of Australian swimming stars set to headline the Dolphins team for the upcoming FINA World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
Kyle Chalmers, Madi Wilson, Meg Harris, Zac Incerti and Matt Temple were all selected for both squads to compete at the two upcoming events.
The announcement came at the conclusion of the Australian Swimming Championships held at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
At this event SASI swimmers had a big impact in the pool, coming away with medals in the following events:
50m Butterfly: GOLD - 23.21 (PB)
100m Butterfly: SILVER - 51:67
100m Butterfly: GOLD - 51:50
200m Freestyle: GOLD - 1:45.80 (PB)
100m Freestyle: SILVER – 48.65
50m Freestyle: SILVER – 24.50
100m Freestyle: BRONZE - 53.09
200m Freestyle: BRONZE – 1:55:86
Madi Wilson said she was “beyond excited” about her selection into both teams.
“Being announced on my 8th and 9th Australian teams feels very surreal but it’s extra special because I did it with my teammates Kyle, Zac, Matt and Meg,” Wilson said.
Also selected to join the team and support the athletes were SASI staff, Head Coach Peter Bishop and Performance Analyst Tim Rawlins.
The Dolphins will travel to Europe in early June for a staging camp before the World Championships in Budapest from 18-25 June.
They will then go on to compete at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games which will commence on 28 July.
Adding to the list of achievements for our swimming team, SASI full scholar Britt Castelluzzo has been selected for the Australia A team and associate scholar Fergus McLachlan was announced in the Junior Dolphins.
The Australia A team will compete at the 2022 US National Championships from 26-30 July in Irvine, California, while the Junior Dolphins will make their way to Honolulu, Hawaii from 24-27 August for the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.
