Claxton shines at Hockey Australia's night of nights
Australia's best players were recognised at the Hockey Australia awards night with South Australian star Jane Claxton a joint winner of the Hockeyroos Player of the Year with Kaitlin Nobbs
IT'S been a solid year for both the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos squads this year with SASI and Australian star Jane Claxton playing a big hand in that success.
Claxton, 27, was recently announced as the Hockeyroos player of the year with Kaitlin Nobbs at the Hockey Australia awards night.
The year capped off a top one for Claxton and her teammates who saw their team beat Russia in an Olympic qualifier in October.
Claxton said she was thrilled but surprised to share the player award.
"Very shocked, if I am honest," Claxton said.
"I had a few niggles with injury throughout the year plus a heavy university load so I did not think I performed well enough to warrant this type of accolade.
"But I'm very appreciative to be recognised.
"We are about to enter in to three weeks of pre-season before coming back together in January to start the prep for Tokyo.
"So over December will be more of a conditioning program to get us ready for the busy year ahead.
"A good opportunity to relax and shift focus for a few weeks before everything kicks off."
Hockeyroos Head Coach Paul Gaudoin said Claxton's approach and commitment were excellent.
"Jane is someone who prides her herself on workrate and effort and she has shown throughout the year that she has the ability to influence games at a high level," Gaudoin said.
"She has scored goals, has been an important part of our midfield and it has been pleasing to see her progression.''
Rising star Miki Spano was recognised also for making her Test debut for the Hockeyroos.
