Some of South Australia's most decorated athletes will join our brightest young stars at the opening of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games today.

A 25-strong contingent from South Australia is part of the 257 member Australian Commonwealth Games Team in Glasgow, Scotland, for the Games.

Seventeen of the selected athletes are South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) scholarship holders or graduates.

The South Australians include Commonwealth champions Kyle Chalmers and Kurtis Marschall, competing in their third Commonwealth Games, and 13 others that will make their debut.

SASI’s world-class coaching and facilities has helped to develop and attract some of Australia’s most exciting young talent across events and codes.

SA athletes have been selected across six sports including:

ATHLETICS AND PARA ATHLETICS

• Kurtis Marschall will attempt to secure a historic third consecutive Commonwealth Games pole vault gold.
• Aidan Murphy makes his debut in the men’s 200m, following a blistering 19.88‑second performance at the Australian Athletics Championships.

CYCLING (TRACK)

• Five Birmingham 2022 medallists return, including gold medallists Leigh Hoffman and Sophie Edwards.
• Rising talent Tayte Ryan makes his debut after winning multiple gold medals at the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.

GYMNASTICS (ARTISTIC)

• Jesse Moore returns for his second Games, taking on a leadership role within the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics team.

NETBALL

• Adelaide Thunderbirds stars Georgie Horjus and Matilda Garrett are among five debutants selected for the Diamonds.
• Sarah Klau brings valuable experience after contributing to Australia’s gold medal in Birmingham.

SWIMMING AND PARA SWIMMING

• Kyle Chalmers aims to defend his 100m freestyle title, adding to his seven Commonwealth Games gold medals.
• Molly Walker makes her debut in the 800m freestyle following a personal‑best qualifying swim.

WEIGHTLIFTING

• Kiana Elliott competes in the women’s 63kg, marking her second Commonwealth Games appearance.
