Australian athletics cohort finalised for Glasgow 2026
Five South Australian athletes will proudly wear the green and gold as part of a powerful Australian Athletics team heading to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with a mix of established stars and emerging talent set to compete.
Leading the charge is pole vault sensation Kurtis Marschall, who will chase history in Glasgow as he targets an extraordinary third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal.
Already one of Australia’s most decorated field athletes, Marschall enters the Games aiming to extend his dominance in the event and further cement his legacy on the Commonwealth stage.
“I’m incredibly proud to be selected again for Australia. Winning one Commonwealth Games gold was special, but the opportunity to go for a third straight title means everything,” Marschall said.
“I know the level will be high in Glasgow, but I’m excited to prepare well and give it everything for the green and gold.”
Joining him in the Australian team is rising sprint star Aidan Murphy, who will make his Commonwealth Games debut in the men’s 200m after a breakthrough season.
Murphy announced himself among Australia’s fastest athletes earlier this year with a blistering 19.88-second performance at the Australian Athletics Championships before backing it up with victory at the Oceania Athletics Championships. His recent form places him firmly among Australia’s leading medal contenders heading into Glasgow.
South Australia’s future stars will also step onto the Commonwealth stage for the first time, with South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) athletes Marley Raikiwasa and Tim Fraser earning selection.
Raikiwasa will contest the shot put, while Fraser lines up in the 10,000m race walk, marking a significant milestone in both athletes’ high-performance journeys and reflecting the strength of South Australia’s athlete development pathway.
They join fellow South Australian Lizzy McMillen, who was named in the first round of Australian team selections and will also compete in the 10,000m race walk.
Together, the five-athlete contingent showcases the depth of talent emerging from South Australia, blending international experience with exciting new faces ready to make their mark.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will run from 23 July to 2 August, with athletics competition taking place at Scotstoun Stadium from Monday 27 July to Saturday 1 August.
