Australia’s Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) team has claimed a historic bronze medal on the opening day of competition at Glasgow 2026, securing the nation’s first Commonwealth Games team medal since Delhi 2010.

Jesse Moore (SASI), Benjamin Foster, Tru Hagens, James Hardy and Ritam Malik combined for a score of 235.650 to finish behind Canada and England in a composed and determined display.

The Australians opened on rings, where Hardy, Moore and Malik laid a solid foundation. Hardy and Moore both produced routines strong enough to book places in Monday’s apparatus final.

Hardy continued his outstanding form on vault, averaging 13.775 across his two vaults to qualify third for Tuesday’s final.

On parallel bars, Moore showcased his experience in his second Commonwealth Games, scoring 13.500 to narrowly secure a place in the apparatus final.

Malik then delivered one of Australia’s standout routines on high bar, sticking his dismount to score 13.450 and qualify for Tuesday’s final.

Hardy capped off an impressive qualification campaign on floor, posting 13.150 to progress to Monday’s final.

With Australia sitting in third place and just one apparatus remaining, the competition was paused following a serious fall from England’s Gabriel Langton on high bar. The English gymnast landed on his head and neck and required immediate medical attention.

During the lengthy delay, Hardy helped keep the Australian team relaxed by pulling out a deck of cards before competition resumed.

The pressure shifted to pommel horse, where Malik, Moore and Hagens delivered when it mattered most, securing Australia’s place on the podium ahead of host nation Scotland.

For the Australians, the bronze medal was made even more special by the friendships that have developed throughout their journey together.

“We all grew up together, so we’re just one big bunch of friends,” Hagens said.

“It’s pretty amazing seeing all of us accomplish this together. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

Moore and Malik will contest the men’s all-around final on Sunday 26 July (9.00pm AEST), before Hardy competes in the floor final on Monday 27 July (10.00pm AEST). Moore and Malik will also line up in the pommel horse final on Monday. Hardy and Moore will both also line up on rings.

Competition concludes on Tuesday 28 July (10.00pm AEST), with Hardy competing on vault, Moore on parallel bars and Malik in the high bar final.
