THE Australian junior women's hockey team, with three SASI athletes in the mix, is about to face a testing month with an intense training camp and four matches against Japan's junior women's team.
Hattie Shand, Emma de Broughe and Amy Hammond, one of seven new players brought into the squad, will fly the SASI flag.
Jillaroos Head Coach Tim White said the coming series would be a great test for the team, particularly the new players coming in.
"Being the national junior squad we look to give opportunities to a wide range of athletes, importantly making sure that they deserve the opportunity first and foremost,'' White said.
He said the SASI athletes had worked hard for their places.
"It's fantastic to see three SASI athletes named in the Jillaroos team to play Japan," White said.
"Hattie and Emma both played for the Jillaroos against New Zealand and India in December last year and performed well enough to deserve another opportunity.
"Amy has been selected for the first time and will debut for the Jillaroos against Japan.
"She has been rewarded for her hard work and consistent performances last year in the under-21 nationals and for the Adelaide Fire in the Hockey One League.
"Japan will provide excellent opposition so the four-match series will provide the Jillaroos with a great international competition opportunity.''
Hattie said she couldn't wait for the camp, and if selected, the games against Japan.
"It will be a really intense and competitive environment which is always exciting to be a part of," Hattie said.
"I'm really looking forward to the experience and Japan is a really skilful and speedy side so that will be a challenge in itself.''
A training camp involving the entire squad of 27 players will be held in mid February with a team of 20 players then chosen for the Japan matches.
