IT IS all starting to take shape for the Hockeyroos as they head to Sydney this weekend (Feb 1 and 2) for the FIH Pro League matches against Great Britain - the Australian teams saying farewell to home soil until the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Jane Claxton, Karri McMahon and Gabi Nance are the SASI graduates in the mix for selection this weekend with each on a high coming into the event against the reigning Olympic gold medallist.
For Nance it is the thrill of just being a part of the team after a long lay off. She scored a goal in the team's recent narrow Pro League loss to Belgium, her eighth international goal overall and first for nearly two years for the Hockeyroos.
McMahon also has a milestone to look forward to, her 150th international game in a career which has had its ups and down with serious injuries along the way.
A broken jaw, pelvis and knee surgeries have been par for the course for the star who debuted in 2012. Claxton also is a seasoned campaigner and has experienced the highs of leadership and a stellar career so far.
A positive Nance said there was plenty of upside to the team's games against Belgium.
"It was a great test for us and a good challenge against a strong team," Nance said. "I thought we had enough of the play and should have won in actual game time.
"I am really enjoying my involvement. I was in the program, stepped out for awhile and now back in. This is a really strong squad and good to be involved in.''
McMahon also wasn't too worried about the narrow loss to Belgium.
"I think we are still finding our feet and trying a few things," McMahon said.
" We can take out a few things to work on against GB but everything we do is with the Olympics in mind. We've had four years of building but these games are a good test against the best but maybe we could leave a little bit left for later.''
