de Broughe's Double Delight

Emma - Scorpion

Outstanding SASI athlete Emma de Broughe's sporting workload is about to get a lot heavier after winning a contract with South Australia's senior women's cricket team, the Scorpions. Emma also is going to be busy with her ongoing hockey scholarship and commitments

STAR young athlete Emma de Broughe's will need a good diary and plenty of planning, courtesy of her recent contract with the Scorpions - South Australia's senior women's cricket team.

Emma, 18, already has a SASI hockey scholarship and says she is looking forward to the next part of her sporting journey.

"This is really exciting and a great thrill," Emma said.

"I will sit down with the coaches and work out a program where I can do both sports but everyone's been really supportive.

Emma, studing psychology at Adelaide University, recently returned from a National underage hockey training camp in Melbourne where most of the country's hockey institute athletes attended, playing matches against each other.

SASI's Euleena MacLachlan, Hattie Shand and Amy Hammond also attended the camp.

SASI hockey coach Tim White said there were some exciting times ahead for Emma.

"Emma's cricket coach Luke Williams and I are very keen for SASI and SACA to work together to enable Emma to have the best chance to excel at both sports," White said.

"Emma is a young athlete with elite habits whom we are confident will deal with the demands of both sports well.

"Our job will be to ensure we manage her work load as well as we can.''

The SASI athletes are now training for the under-21 national titles in Lismore, New South Wales, between July 10 and 17.
